Welcome to the Reading Cafe

In the so-called reading cafe, the latest literature in the field of fantasy and fantasy was presented. There were autograph sessions and many authors were present in person. So if you wanted to recover a bit, you could just settle there and have fantastic stories read out to you.

The artist alley

What's that? Now this is the wonderful opportunity to look at his comic book artist , meet her favorite artist and have a picture taken with him. You can have all drawings signed personally or just watch what the great artists can present.

The cosplay area

Of course there were a lot of characters on the CCXP Cologne that were brought to life so to speak. The cosplayers are people who like to dress up and represent their favorite characters. When I went with my son through the halls, we could see many of them. So we met many Star Wars figures or cartoon characters from Spider-Man to a gigantic Hulk figure. Besides there were still some characters which jumped from the computer games into the life.

The walking dead

The fantasy world of the living zombies could also be admired at the fair. There was even a zombie house that you could walk through and get scared of zombies! Of course, the entrance was only possible from 18 years. Since I was traveling with my son, but I have renounced it and shot only from the outside a photo and I watched the zombie up close. Acted as real as in the movies or in the series. By the way: supposedly there will be a movie about "the walking dead" soon! So you can be curious!

The medieval market

There should be a medieval market outside Koelnmesse. However, I would like to say in advance that this presentation was not very successful in my opinion. For on the asphalt floor between the exhibition hall, the stands were relatively carelessly constructed and there was no atmosphere at all. You should think about it at the next meeting and optimize something. The exhibitors at the fair are among the financially strongest companies in the media world. Actually, it should not be a problem to take a small amount of money in your hand and maybe pour some earth or sand to reach a different atmosphere. Maybe the exhibitors will come up with this simple idea next year.

The playground

Fans of board games and dice games were also entertained on around 2,000 square meters. There were card games and other board games that you could test and play.

Film presentations and real cars to touch

There were many booths at the show where movie premieres were introduced. One of them was e.g. the movie "Fast and Furious, Hobbs and Shaw", which will be released on cinemas on August 1st. For this purpose, of course, the Hollywood stars Idris Elba and Jason Statham gave the honor to stir the drum for the new film. In addition to the TVs, where you could watch the trailer, there were also many utensils from the movies. So of course there were also the cars from the movie to marvel at.

Batman was there too

For around 80 years there is only the character Batman and of course that should also be celebrated at the CCXP Cologne. Again, you could see again film excerpts or admire the utensils (including the Batmobile!) From the movies. So for absolute fans a must!

Numerous stalls

However, from my point of view, the biggest part of the fair was pure sales space. So of course you could buy everything around the movie and fantasy figures. For example, these were T-shirts, pullovers, sweatshirts, coffee cups, stuffed animals, drawings, books or games. So there was something for everyone . Because that was the way it was, something had picked out and so I bought a little stuffed bear from a computer game.

Our personal impressions

If you are considering going to the CCXP Cologne, you will certainly want to hear our opinion. Did we like it or not? Due to the well-known trailer on YouTube, we drove with great expectations into the exhibition halls. The doors opened at 11 o'clock in the morning which is actually quite late. Usually eat already at 9 o'clock in the morning. After we arrived, we noticed that not so much audience was there yet. Therefore, of course, many things seemed a bit bleak.

Only after the arrival of other visitors and also disguised guests a bit more mood came up. Of course, all the characters and built stands with great film backdrops were beautiful. Almost everywhere there were small TVs on which you could watch trailers if you were interested in the new films. Unfortunately, there was not really any mood on the way through the two exhibition halls. Somehow the atmosphere was missing and also some movement in the corresponding hall. So there were just built the stalls and sometimes there was also disguised staff. What was missing in my view were said screenings, rather disguised performers who can bring so mood and atmosphere to the event.

So it can not really be that the visitors through their great disguise and their great costumes , provide for the necessary aha effects and the exhibitors simply relatively loveless, their stalls (such as on the medieval market). So to sum it up again, somehow the action and a corresponding fantasy atmosphere in the exhibition halls were missing. As a visitor, I do not want to just buy something and then go back home, no, at such a trade fair one would certainly like to be entertained and unfortunately that was still missing to a large extent.

If the organizer and the exhibitors consistently set at this point, then this event could become a real mega event in Cologne. Furthermore, in the social media far too little advertising was made to reach young people and introduce the still unknown fair. Keyword here maybe "Influencer Marketing"!

The Role Play Convention

Has the resolution of the Role Play Convention triggered a reaction among former exhibitors or visitors? Somehow I had the feeling that it could be because the Roleplay Convention was simply integrated into the new show and many former participants simply did not come. There has been some negative criticism in the internet about this action. Again, the organizers should appreciate the old Roleplay Convention worthy. Maybe then old visitors and old exhibitors will come back to the halls?!
