The Rheinparkcafe in Cologne Deutz

Finally! The Parkcafe in our beautiful Rheinpark in Cologne Deutz will probably reopen soon. That is exactly what we were missing there. The building is listed and therefore it is certainly not that easy to start the renovation, but the eyesore has to go. A crumbling building in the middle of the great park was a gruesome picture.

New operators found

Already in March 2015 the economics lecturer Ms. Ute Berg introduced the new operator. It is a bidding consortium of not entirely unknown restaurateurs from Cologne. These were awarded the contract because their operator concept was convincing. This even has a social aspect, as the unemployed and people with disabilities should be included in the operation of the café. The mayor at the time, Jürgen Roters, was also very satisfied and was looking forward to the old Rheinpark café's blossoming. This should be awakened again from the slumber and finally be there again for the Cologne residents who want to relax in the Rheinpark .

Kiosk, cafe and restaurant

There is a lot of rebuilding and installation, but when everything is ready, it's a great thing! Because a kiosk, cafe and restaurant that is open all year round makes sense in this place. Imagine sitting there in a comfortable armchair and looking at the great plants and trees that were once laid out for a Federal Garden Show at that time ... and while doing so, you drink a Kölsch and eat a Halven Hahn! That would be great!

Renovation and revitalization

But there is still a long way to go and there is a lot of work to be done by the construction team. The listed building needs a complete renovation and the costs are estimated at over 2.7 million euros. Not only do all the pipes have to be renewed, not only a new kitchen with exhaust air systems and all other requirements installed, no, barrier-free access must also be ensured. For this purpose, a wheelchair-accessible elevator must also be installed. In principle, however, the appearance of the building should be preserved. Because it has a beautiful architecture from the 50s. The Park Cafe was built in 1957 especially for the Federal Garden Show and is a well-known building in the cathedral city. In 2017 it should finally be reopened. Thousands of Cologne residents and tourists are looking forward to it! So do we, because our holiday apartments are not far from this beautiful complex!
