New look for the Cologne fair

Another milestone will soon be built in Cologne Deutz, namely the Messecity ! In this context, the old exhibition halls in Deutz will also be redesigned and a new conference center will be built.

Modernization and maintenance measures necessary

In order to further improve the trade fair operations of Koelnmesse GmbH, a large number of construction measures are to be carried out. These include the following actions:

• A new hall with the name 1plus is to be built. This has a new exhibition area of ​​around 10,000 square meters. The new area makes it possible to carry out necessary modifications to the fair during ongoing operations! This is awesome!
• The southern area of ​​the trade fair is to be brought up to a modern, technical level through some maintenance and modernization measures . This includes the renewal of ventilation and air conditioning systems and the sanitary facilities. The measures should be implemented by 2030 and cause costs of several hundred million euros.
• The change in the parking lot and traffic situation. Among other things, new parking garages are to be built.
• Improvement of the visual appearance of the fair and also of the surrounding open spaces and green areas.
• Installation and expansion of digital billboards and advertising spaces, which can then be used by the exhibitors.
• New entrance terminal for the southern area of ​​the exhibition halls.
• Construction of a so-called Confex Hall, which can then be rented as a congress and event hall in addition to the exhibition activities. It addresses company bosses who want to plan and hold an event with around 4,000 people. With the new building, the fair finally has the opportunity to offer an offer for the congress area.

Architects JSWD wins tender

The Cologne architects JSWD won over the jury with their design and unanimously won the bid. The largest investment by our flagship company is being planned in Deutz under the project title Koelnmesse 3.0 . It should be implemented by 2030 and so far it is expected to cost around 600 million euros! Neither the city of Cologne nor the state contribute to the costs and so these are completely borne by the fair alone. This is certainly a bit surprising, as the city of Cologne should have a considerable interest in this positive development, as it also benefits from it. The fair in Cologne could very quickly develop into one of the best inner-city fairgrounds in the world. You can see that this is sorely necessary when you want to go from Deutz train station to the exhibition grounds.

The schedule

The year 2016 is mainly used for planning work and then finally in 2017 we can get started. A first big step in this work should be the completion of the new Hall 1plus in 2019. Then it will be the turn of the Confex congress hall and will probably be completed by 2021. A new terminal will also be planned in 2017 and will probably be completed in 2024. We are really curious to see how the area here in Deutz is constantly improving ?! In addition to the Rheinboulevard, the modernization of the exhibition halls, the Messecity , a casino will soon be added! What more do you want?!
