A city tour with the hop-on hop-off bus in Cologne

Hop on Hop off Bus
The hop on hop off bus

There's no easier way to do a Cologne City Tour than with the Hop-on Hop-off Bus. If you live in Cologne, then of course you have enough time to look at one attraction after the other. Of course, a classic tourist does not. He has only a limited time window and therefore he will try in his time in the cathedral city as much as possible culture and sights snap up as it is possible. Of course, since we have a lot to offer in our beautiful city culturally scary, it could be very scarce with time! Therefore, it is advisable to book also guided tours, so you do not get stressed in his holidays in Cologne . That would not be so nice and you would therefore perhaps not keep the Rhine metropolis in beautiful memory. Our "Kölle" may not be as big as Berlin or New York, but we still have too many sights to walk off in 3 days .

City Bus
The red biplane drives past the Gürzenich

We would therefore like to recommend you the trip with a city tour bus and even report it once, because we have come especially for you! The red double-decker bus will drive you through Cologne and you'll get everything explained while you're driving ( in many languages) and have seen everything comfortably and quickly. In good weather even as a convertible version! About an hour and 30 minutes cost with the bus 12 euros for an adult. Anyone who is quite clever, but buys a day ticket for 15 euros and so at each station (and thus every attraction) get off and then get back in the next coming city bus and continue to the next attraction , You will also receive headphones (the languages German, English, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch and Russian are available) for the audioguide, which runs during the ride and explains all the information about the attractions.

Only 12 Euro

Conveniently, of course, right at the cathedral, right next to the tourist information a stop from the yellow city bus. So just in the tourism info, packed all Fleyer and maps and off you go the city tour! But beware, do not just get in the Cologne tourist train :) Just kidding, you will of course recognize the difference.

The tour of Cologne begins

Of course, also in this bus, the tickets are checked and after this is done, it starts immediately! Headphones put on and the appropriate language selected and off you go! So we leave the stop "Kölner Dom" and drive to the other eight stops: "Schokoladen Museum", "Gürzenich Cologne", "Stadtmuseum", "Friesenplatz", "Kölner Zoo / Flora "," the Odysseum ", the" Cologne Triangle " (yes, we are also in Deutz!) and the " El de Haus ". If you start the morning sightseeing tour with the first bus early in the morning and buy a day pass, then you may still have time problems getting out and staying at each station, but you do not have to get off at each station. It may even be enough if you take a close look at your personal favorites and not all of them. So the bus starts, in the Südstadt just along the Rhine promenade along and of course you have our wonderful "Düx" in the sights. Because it lies on the other side of the Rhine.

Schokoladenmuseum Köln
Chocolate Museum in Cologne

So we drive towards the first station and reach the Chocolate Museum of Cologne quite fast. The museum is one of the most popular in the whole of Germany and is located in the Rheinauhafen. What many do not know: right next to the chocolate museum is also the German Sports Museum and thus you could kill two birds with one stone, if you would get out of here.

The Rheinauhafen is very elegant and has many restaurants and bars in the meantime. We are located at the Severinsbrücke, which connects both sides of the Rhine. The three Kranhäuser in Cologne, which have an incredible shape and tower towards the Rhine, are quite imposing and certainly also a masterpiece of architecture. There were the starting prices for the square Wohraum at that time at 10,000 euros! I do not want to know what it's supposed to cost today! Those interested in mustard can also visit the nearby Cologne Mustard Museum .

Senfmuseum
Kölner Senfmuseum

Station: Gürzenich Cologne

And on it goes: The bus drives us to the next sight of Cologne. The Gürzenich. The ballroom is well-known and famous for great, grand and celebratory events that can be held there in a reasonable manner. Not far away is also the Heumarkt with its equestrian monument. And not far away is the "Old Market", because we are finally here in the old town of Cologne.

Alter Markt

But do not worry, there are not only old houses and many pubs ... No, not too far away is also the Cologne shopping mile ! Hohe Straße and Schildergasse are the busiest shopping streets in Germany! Shops without end until the credit card is glowing! Department stores, boutiques and of course a whole lot of cafes, restaurants and fast food shops: it's all there. If you want to spend a lot of money, that is exactly right there. We save a detailed analysis and continue with the City Hop-on Hop-off Bus!

Guerzenich
The Gürzenich in Cologne

Station: City Museum

If you want, you can also get off at this station and take a little more time for the history of Cologne. If that is a bit too unspectacular for you, you can just go for a spin over the Kölner Ringe. Hohenstaufenring, Westgate on Rudolfplatz and on this of course the historic Hahnentorburg and on towards Friesenplatz, Hansaring and Ebertplatz. On the "rings" you will find a whole lot of cool bars and restaurants, which are quite chic. But we drive well with our bus and make station ....

The Cologne Zoo and the Flora

Of course, the Cologne Zoo is one of the sights of Cologne and must if you have children, be sure to visit once. Of course, a ride on the city bus is not suitable for this, since you actually have to take into account almost a whole day there.

Our popular zoo has a variety of wildlife to offer and has a wonderful playground with a large steel train. Perfect for resting and the kids can let off steam. But as already written: You can not just work off in two hours, take a lot of time with you!

For art lovers, there is also the Sculpture Park of Cologne nearby. Here you can also be impressed as an "art beast" and unsuspecting visitor just by the variety of sculptures: all sorts of tree trunks, golden balls and much more provide some aha effects. Can you really look at it spontaneously, because it costs nothing and if you do not like it, then you can just move on! True to the motto, you have to have seen everything ... and definitely, if it costs nothing!

Riehl

The Flora

Now it goes straight to the next station in Rhiel: There is also the great flora. The Flora Köln stands for: flowers, flowers and more flowers. An imposing botanical garden, because you will not forget so fast. A pompous festival house, great fountains and just the many exotic plants and flowers that give us a breathtaking sight. A cafe, here and there once a brook and of course flower beds. Even palm trees and a tropical and a greenhouse, make for a charming exoticism. Of course, the flora will be especially popular with those who are looking forward, as they are known to like to see and smell flowers. So make your wife happy and visit Flora once! You will not regret it. By the way, the station of the Kölner Seilbahn is right next to the zoo and the flora. This translates directly to Deutz. Of course, we continue with the city bus.

Next Station: The Sick Sick

So the journey continues on the other side of the Rhine and there exactly to Deutz (Düx).

Deutz

You will also find our apartments there. Why does the city tour also go to Deutz? Well, Deutz is also located in the city center and is therefore also a part of the attractions of the cathedral city. The Lanxess Arena and the Cologne Triangle are exactly the same. Very close to the Deutz train station! The Lanxess Arena regularly holds big concerts, carnivals or sporting events. Incidentally, the Lanxess Arena is also the venue of the Ice Hockey World Championship in 2017!

Deutzer Bahnhof
The train station Cologne Deutz / Messe

And off you go to the Odysseum ! This is a particularly exciting place for children! There is a lot to discover and explore here, because the Odysseum is an adventure hall where you get a lot of explanations and even experiments. There is, for example, a research or experience area in which the "broadcast with the mouse" was the godfather. There the children can playfully expand their knowledge. In addition, there are also exciting exhibitions! For example, there was an exhibition on the subject:

  • Harry Potter- The exhibition
  • Star wars

Now the journey continues and we also see Deutzer Bahnhof again. We pass this with our great city bus and come to the Cologne Triangle . This is an absolute recommendation from us! Not only for the guests of the Ferienwohnung-Koeln.com, which are of course quite comfortable in about 6 minutes on foot! The Cologne Triangle is equipped with a great observation deck on the roof. There you drive for a mere 3 euros quite comfortable with the elevator high and has the best view over the whole of Cologne! And not just in one direction: 360 degrees !!!

Cologne Triangle

In the immediate vicinity is only the Cologne Trade Fair and the new headquarters of RTL and the media group RTL. Of course, if you have the time, you have to visit our great Rheinpark, with all its beautiful plants, flowers and green spaces. Incidentally, the stop of the Kölner Seilbahn cable car is also there and if you want to relax a bit, you can do so in the Claudius Therme . Or you sit down briefly on the beautiful stairways on our new boulevard. So you see very quickly: Deutz is a place that you should definitely visit or perhaps should live there, during the time of your Cologne vacation! There are many recreational and recreational opportunities.

The bus continues over the Deutzer bridge, past the Heumarkt in the direction of Neumarkt. Oops, I almost forgot the great museums lying on the track:

  1. Josef-Haubrich Art Gallery
  2. Schnüttgen Museum

We are almost heading for the Käthe Kollwitz Museum but we want to give you some additional information: At Heumarkt and also at Neumarkt you will find wonderful Christmas Markets instead. At the Neumarkt the Christmas market is called "the market of the angels" and at the Heumarkt the "Heinzelmännchenmarkt". Somewhat less attractive is the Nikolausmarkt on Rudolfplatz. There I miss something of the Christmas flair.

The bus ride is worth it

So our recommendation is clearly a ride on this great hop-on hop-off city bus. Quickly and conveniently, you get all the sights of Cologne presented and then you can choose one or two favorites, which then take a closer look.

A super tip! Hop on!!
