The Art Cologne : It has been taking place in the cathedral city since 1967. The Cologne art fair Art Cologne ! This makes it the world's oldest art fair! And such a great event will take place in Cologne again!

We have already had a wide variety of event locations until the exhibition finally ended up in the exhibition halls in Deutz . Art Cologne always takes place at the beginning of the year (in April) and as an artistic counter-pool there has always been Cologne Fine Art in autumn every year.

For the 52nd time

Art Cologne is now taking place for the 52nd time and attracts a good 200 galleries from over 30 countries that exhibit high-quality and interesting art. In the 2017 calendar year, the art fair attracted over 50,000 international visitors to the exhibition halls in Cologne.

Classic and modern

The art fair presents a variety of art from the 20th and 21st centuries, which art lovers and collectors love to see again and again. Modern and contemporary art in the areas of work on paper, video, sculpture and of course classical painting are presented and exhibited here. Art in all imaginable price categories by over 2000 artists can be purchased here.

The distribution of the artists and the works of art in the halls is well organized and well thought out . The art of (classical) modernism and that art after 1945 can usually be found in Hall 11.1. The Art Prize

From 1988 onwards, Art Cologne has another highlight on offer: the award ceremony for the artist or person who has made a particular contribution, with his or her commitment to art. Together by Koelnmesse and the Federal Association of German Galleries and Art Dealers, it is awarded every year and endowed with a proud 10,000 euros.

In addition, there are 2 other prizes that are awarded again and again:

Children at Art Cologne

Of course, art enthusiasts also have children and they want proper care ! That is why Art Cologne offers free childcare here: the so-called Kids Club. Trained educators lovingly look after the offspring here.

Workshops for kids

And so that the children don't get bored either, appropriate art workshops are offered. Motivated art educators guide children between the ages of five and twelve through various galleries and explain everything. Just great for the children to be introduced to art so easily and naturally at an early age!

ARTtours tour

So that you can grasp the art even faster and receive professional support, a so-called guided tour is also offered. The Museumdienst Köln guides visitors to the most important points of Art Cologne if necessary and answers all questions from those interested in art. Here you can get background information from the relevant gallery owners and about the most important trends and movements on the current art market. Group tours are even offered!

Moderated discussion groups

The Art Cologne TalksLounge offers another opportunity to find out more about art and to speak and discuss current topics. In moderated discussions, for example, the following topics are discussed:

Promotion of young artists

The "New positions" program is a funding program for young artists and gallery owners . This should give them the media-effective opportunity to advertise their art and their gallery. After all, without awareness there is no sale!
A selected jury of experts awards the points and the winner gets the opportunity to exhibit his art in the Artothek in Cologne!

The Neumarkt shows

If a gallery is not older than ten years, it is considered a young gallery and has an exhibition opportunity there. But there are also various presentations and art from various "old" galleries.

The history of the art market: Zadik

It is unique in the world and focuses on the history of the art market. The "Central Archive for German and International Art Market Research e.V.". It has been a research archive at the University of Cologne since 2014 and has been in existence since 1992. It is of course also funded by Koelnmesse. In April 2018, the Zadik showed a special insight into the subject of "nineties" and "upheaval in the art scene".

The corporate collecting

Landesbank Baden-Württemberg also "has its fingers in the game" when it comes to "corporate collecting" and is an important driving force behind the special shows. In 2018 she presented the special show "Comeback". Art from the 80s and 90s is collected. At Art Cologne there was a special show by artist Zuzanna Czebatul. The artist showed an artistic carpet at the south entrance. She is known for haunting and very strong designs with a hypnotic effect!

Another art fair

Another fair is Cologne Fine Art. This year it will take place in November 2018 and of course also deal with art. It is probably much smaller than Art Cologne but still attracts more than 15,000 guests to the city. Cologne Fine Art will also take place in the exhibition halls in Cologne-Deutz. A new Fine Art app can even be used to guide visitors through the works of art. A special feature of this fair is the "Young collectors room" which is supposed to offer high quality art up to a price level of 5,000 euros. This price limit also enables "normal" people to get started and love art.
