Living and working at the Deutz Hafen

At Deutzer Hafen a unique city quarter is to be created! The city of Cologne has a really good idea in the pipeline with the restructuring of the old Deutz port. The port of Deutz has almost completely lost its role as a port and could therefore easily make room for new residential units and commercial units with a view of the cathedral.

4500 apartments and 5000 new jobs

An expert opinion has confirmed it: the idea is brilliant and "living near the river" is absolutely recommended. The location is great and the need is there in Cologne anyway: Allegedly, the living space is scarce and so the city of Cologne must be happy about every successful construction project. The then mayor Jürgen Roters was confident and also the councilor for urban development, construction and transport, Mr. Franz-Josef Höing is enthusiastic and calls the construction project a stroke of luck for the city of Cologne.

New district for everyone!

A quarter is to be created here that is to be open to all citizens in Cologne. The aim is to create affordable living space with a balanced mix of different apartments on offer. However, it is questionable whether this can succeed. A share of 30% of apartments that are publicly subsidized is planned. If you look at the Cranhäuser and the entire quarter on the other side of the Rhine, you will see that newly built living space is not always affordable. The new apartments and the commercial units will have their price. You have to be naive if you believe that people with a residence permit will later live in this quarter. Due to the fantastic location right on the water and the high standard of living that goes with it. Since parts of the port will be retained, there will probably also be moorings for boats. Just like on the other side of the Rhine, this will again attract a certain clientele of buyers and drive prices up.

Kick-off workshops run

This year the first workshops on the subject of "Development of a residential area at the Deutzer Hafen" took place. Citizens should be intensively and often involved in planning and development, and therefore further participation processes will be initiated in the course of the year. Everyone should and may contribute their ideas so that a "masterpiece" can emerge. We are very excited about these great developments and are pleased that the City of Cologne expressly supports and wants to promote this project. Your Ferienwohnung-Koeln.com
