The tip from Apartment Cologne

If you are in the cathedral city by car, then maybe a trip to the shopping center in Weiden is worthwhile. Especially if it should rain in Cologne, a visit to a covered shopping center makes sense!

History of Willows

A Roman burial chamber was found in Weiden , which is considered the best preserved burial chamber in the north of the Alps. The treasures from antiquity were found on a large property on Aachener Strasse No. 1328. In its history, Weiden has actually only ever been a small street village along Aachener Strasse. Due to the occupation of the French, the small village became the main town of the "Canton de Weyden" from where the name can also be explained. After the dissolution of the cantons, Weiden was added to a new mayor's office. This took place in 1802.

The Kingdom of Prussia then received the Weiden district in 1815 and ultimately in 1816 the town was incorporated into the Lövenich Mayor's Office in the Cologne district.

Traffic

Weiden is well connected in terms of transport technology, as it can be perfectly connected by car via Aachener Straße. This is not recommended only during rush hour traffic. The motorway is easy to reach, as the "Köln Lövenich" motorway exit is in the immediate vicinity. There is also a good connection by public transport: The S-Bahn S12, S13 and S19 stop at the station "Köln Weiden West". The KVB (Kölner Verkehrsbetriebe) also takes tram number 1 and bus lines 149, 145, 143 and 141 to Weiden.

A Roman grave in pastures

There is a Roman grave in Weiden which is on Aachener Straße 1328 and has an interesting burial chamber, which is located underground. The Roman tomb probably dates from around the 2nd century, because in the old Roman period such tombs were always on exit roads. It was easier for the travelers to keep the memory of the deceased. The adjacent highway "Via Belgica" has such a special grave. This "Via Belgica" is or was close to pastures. The burial chambers have always been preciously furnished. It can therefore be assumed that wealthier Roman families lived there. There is another Roman grave in Hürth-Efferen, on the other hand, it is not as valuable as the one mentioned earlier.

Guest houses and hotels in Weiden

Of course, the direct access to the highway in Weiden is very nice. And this is probably the reason why the Hotel Germania has placed itself directly at this point. Weiden has always been a place of transit. Next to the hotel there are one or two guest houses in Weiden . A holiday apartment doesn't really make sense here, since the proximity to the city center is missing. Such accommodation is not needed on the outskirts!
