Apartment Cologne presents: The hidden green oases of Cologne

Here in the cathedral city, there is not only the Cologne Cathedral and the Schildergasse, but also many hidden green oases . We would like to introduce you here briefly.

The Rock Garden and Fort Deckstein

At the beginning of the 19th century, a 50-kilometer fortress ring was created. A remnant of this fortress ring is the so-called Ford VI . which we also call Cologne Fort Deckstein . In 1923, a rock garden was created to offer the people of Cologne a green oasis for leisure. The rocks and I the many greens are a wonderful place to relax and unwind. Feel like a fairy tale walking through this rock garden. The whole situation is reminiscent of a haunted place, as the many trees and rocks lead to a wonderful foreclosure. Immerse yourself in this green other world of Cologne.

The bollards meadows

The Bollards Meadows are well known and loved by the people of Cologne. Because there you can enjoy the beautiful panorama of the cathedral city and relax on the wide meadows. Located right on the banks of the Rhine, you can go for a walk, kite kite or just stop and enjoy the beautiful nature. Sometimes they are also observed there flocks of sheep who can graze there in the large meadows. The bollard meadows are not far from our apartments in Deutz , so we recommend a trip.

The Peace Park in all its beauty

Again, the remains of old fortress walls form the basis for a unique recreational site. Overgrown by nature walls and old trees make for a wonderful resort. The Park in the South City is not well known and therefore guarantees peace and relaxation. You can experience history when you admire the great eagle figure, which is to remember the dead soldiers of the First World War. The eagle was made from old cannons. Every year events take place in this Ford. These range from the typical Cologne carnival events to interesting music festivals. If there is no event taking place there, this is a wonderful place to relax and unwind.

The city forest

This green oasis is one of the largest recreational areas of the city of Cologne . It is found in the districts of Junkersdorf and Lindenthal . Lots of greenery, unbelievable amount of space and the many quiet squares in the Stadtwald ensure a peaceful atmosphere, which is ideal for rest. Sit on a bench and look at the water areas or visit with their children the Lindenthaler zoo, which is also located in this wonderful city forest. As already written in another report, the park is especially popular with children because there is a petting zoo there. In the city forest is also a pond that you can even ride on with rental boats. The city forest is so popular that in its search for a quiet spot, sometimes you have to take a long walk. Very often they encounter jogging or cycling, which always recover in this green oasis from everyday stress. We hope you enjoy exploring this huge green area.

Holidays on the sandy beach

Yes, that's right, you read that right: here in Cologne there's even a white sand beach , which is always well-frequented during the summer months. It is located in the district of Rodenkirchen and always attracts many Cologneers in the summer days. The so-called Kölsch Riviera has a kilometer-long white sand beach, which is located directly on the Rhine. Although this atmosphere may guide you to explore the water, we advise against swimming in the Rhine. The currents of the Rhine are unpredictable and have already added so many a soul a surprising end. If you have come to Cologne by car, you can park near the bank of the Rhine. Arriving is also no problem with public transport.
