History of the neighborhood
The name Bilderstöckchen sounds very lovely. The district actually got its name from a Bilderstock . It is a little saint's house, which was mentioned as a border in 1556 in a document. In 1860 the historic picture gallery was renewed. In 1860 there was also an open field corridor. The picture stick is a listed building and is lovingly maintained. In 1898 the Nippes train station and the slaughterhouse were built. That was the time when the first apartment buildings were built. Not far from the Nippeser Friedhof, construction began on houses along Nievenheimer Straße.
The Nippes construction and savings cooperative had the houses built. In 1903 a school was added to Osterather Strasse. An artillery depot was built in 1909. Tenement houses were also built in the 1920s. A milk farm was built on Geldernstrasse. This was created in 1924. The Rhineland milk supply expanded this in 1965. In the 1930s, their depot halls were converted into apartments. The settlement cooperative " Am Bilderstöckchen " and Catholic organizations helped. The ten hall buildings were converted into terraced houses in 1937. After the Second World War, the housing development continued to grow.
The settlement company "SG - Am Bilderstöckchen GmbH." was founded as a local housing company in 1932 by Catholic associations. It was created to create affordable housing for families. Just five years after the foundation, the first "Ebernburweg" rental property was built in Bilderstöckchen.
Today there is an industrial area in the north. It is located between Longericher Strasse and Robert-Perthel-Strasse.
Cultural, leisure and recreation in the district
In the years between 1910 and 1913 an amusement park was created in the district. The Blucherpark was one of the first public parks in Cologne. This park is a large recreation area. The park and leisure area also has a beautiful pond. On this you can even feed swans . Recreation seekers can fill their lungs with fresh air. A beer garden supplies visitors.
The "Bilderstöckchen Conference" has existed since June 1987. It consists of a specialist committee that is made up of more than 40 services, associations, initiatives and institutions. The expert committee strives for cultural diversity in the district.

Buildings in picture sticks
The rear courtyard was built in 1850-1860. The "way cross" was built in 1860 and is part of the rear courtyard. A beautiful shrine was also built in 1860. In 1717 a memorial cross was erected on Longericher Strasse. It is in and of itself in Longerich. This cross was destroyed by unknown perpetrators. Therefore, only a part of the shaft has been preserved. The cross used to stand in a field. The commemorative cross was built into picture sticks in the railway embankment. Then it was set up at the Dädalusring. It can be seen in the park there. The inscription can still be read in part. The cross consisted of trachyte. The words are legible: "that Matheis Schramm died on August 21, 1717 at 11 a.m." It is therefore of historical value. The Evangelical Nathanaelkirche was built in 1965. The Nathanaelkirche got a respectable bell tower in 1974. The campanile is designed as a concrete sculpture. It stands a little away from the church at the Escher Strasse / Parkgürtel intersection.
The listed buildings and monuments are listed in the list of monuments in Cologne. There is also the Joseph-DuMont vocational college.
