History

The history of Blumenberg can be traced back to prehistoric times. Soil investigations confirmed a settlement on the lower terrace of the Rhine. Excavations took place in 1988/89 and 1990/91. These revealed traces of early settlements. These date back to 3500 to 4000 BC. Eleven built-up farm settlements with stilt houses point to the time around 1000 BC. The battle of Worringen took place on June 5, 1288. The battle raged in the "Fühlinger Heide". Until 1922, Blumenberg belonged to the Mayor's Office of Worringen. Konrad Adenauer incorporated the district. By planning the "New City", Blumenberg should also emerge from it. Apartments for 5000 people were planned. Construction on the settlement only began in 1986. The residents got the S-Bahn connection in 1997.

The naming

Blumenberg received its name on October 7, 1963. The name is probably derived from the Bloemberger Hof. It is mentioned in a document in 1602. The farm name can be derived as a euphemism for "Blutberg". Parallel to the Blumenbergsweg, a dirt road still has the name "Am Blutberg". At that time, many young families decided to settle here. The house and property prices were low. The area around Blumenberg is also very connected to nature.

Initially, only single-family houses were planned as the construction area. But later there were also some apartment buildings . 16 row houses testify to one of the oldest eco-settlements in Germany. The construction was carried out according to ecological considerations.

Traffic in the district

Blumenberg is connected to the rail network by S-Bahn lines 6 and 11. The S-Bahn lines run underground. The main train station can be reached in just 20 minutes. A bus line that runs Monday to Friday has also existed for Blumenberg since 2013. A noise barrier was erected for Blumenberg-Süd and -Nord at the town entrances. Blumenberg has had a Tempo 30 zone since 2008. These are measures to calm traffic in residential areas.

Parish

The parish of St. Pankratius Am Worringer Bruch is also responsible for Blumenberg. In 2003 the new church of St. Catherine of Siena was built in Blumenberg. In addition to a parish hall, there is also a kindergarten, a doctor's office and some apartments. In 2006 there was recognition for this as part of an architecture award.

Leisure and education

In Blumenberg there are four kindergartens, a community elementary school, a youth center and many playgrounds. There are also plenty of sports facilities in the district.
