Fewo Köln presents: The Cologne district of Fühlingen

Fühlingen is in the north of Cologne. It is located in the Chorweiler district. Fühlingen has a wonderful local recreation area: "Fühlinger See". The area is in the south and there are numerous visitors, including nationwide.

Geography

The place is located on the left bank of the Rhine in the north. The Rhine flows past the district in the east. Feldkassel with the industrial area lies to the east. In the west, Blumenberg , Chorweiler and Seeberg / a> to the beautiful district.

History

Fühlingen has a protected location. It is located on a hill. The district is thus spared from flooding . So the settlement took place early. Finds can even be found up to the Neolithic Age. The Romans maintained some brick factories in the area. In the Middle Ages Fühlingen consisted of only a few farms. St. Amandus in Rheinkassel used to be the parish church. Fühlingen had only one chapel. The cemetery was also in Rheinkassel. Fühlingen got its own stud farm with a racecourse in the 19th century. The banking family Oppenheim built the horse stud. The racetrack was only used for training purposes. The land was sold and the population of the district was finally able to afford its own church in 1887. St. Marien was built. A small school of its own was also built opposite the St. Marien church. Archbishop Joseph Frings of Cologne had previously worked as a rector in St. Marien.

The Mayor's Office of Worringen was incorporated in 1922. The district of Fühlingen also belonged to Worringen. The district was very lucky during the Second World War. Because although the chemical plants in Leverkusen and Dormagen were not far away, Fühlingen was almost completely spared major damage. A test track was built in the 1950s. A monorail was built for the Alwegbahn. This route for testing purposes was removed in mid-1967. In the 1960s, the idea of completely demolishing the site was considered. The plan was to build a green dividing line between the industrial track, which was being planned and the "Neue Stadt" residential area in Chorweiler. However, the residents resisted violently and so strongly that the plans fell into disrepair.

Leisure facility

The village character of the district can still be felt. That is why Fühlingen has its own charm. Fühlingen is small in size, the character of a settlement with houses and many fields, the village character remained a little. The numerous fields and the Fühlinger See underline the village character. Fühlingen is a extremely popular residential area in the middle of the city of Cologne .

The buildings

The former stud, which was once built by Eduard Freiherr von Oppenheim, is a listed building. There are still remnants. The building was built around 1880. A manor house is 2.5 stories high. A loggia is included here, which has a beautiful outdoor staircase. In 2008 an article appeared in the Kölner Stadtanzeiger, which reported that the manor house should be restored. Construction work had not started until 2013.

There are still some old farms in Fühlingen. But only a few are still managed. The Heinrichshof was built around 1890. This is still managed. The Kriegerhof was converted into apartments. It is originally from 1892. A coat of arms can be seen here.

There is a half-timbered house on Neusser Landstrasse. It is an inn from 1752. This is a beautiful half-timbered house.

The St. Marien church was built in 1887/88. In 1934 the church was expanded. Carl Rüdell and Richard Odenthal were the architects. They later also drew the design for the Agneskirche in the Neustadt in Cologne. The pastor Albert Paessens dressed the church in Gothic Revival style in the 1960s. His efforts for neo-Gothic furnishings continued until the 1980s.

Infrastructure Fühlingen

In terms of traffic, federal road 9 went through Fühlingen. A bypass was finally completed in over thirty years of planning and building. The road is also a feeder road to the federal highway 1.

The Fühlinger See

The lake is well known and popular and was created in the 1970s. A visit can of course be particularly recommended in summer. The lake was created on a former gravel pit area. When building the "Neu Stadt" Chorweiler, huge amounts of gravel and sand were needed, which were extracted there. So it was properly dredged. There is a large main lake and seven other partial lakes, which receive some water from the Rhine (by infiltration). The lake even has a 2.3 km long and 130 meters wide regatta course!

Summerjam at Fühlinger See

Every summer around 30,000 people sing and dance on Lake Fühlinger! Then the big raggae party rises again with a lot of summer feeling! In 1984 the Summerjam Festival took place for the first time on the Loreley open-air stage. However, as more and more music fans became interested in this festival, an acute space problem quickly developed. Therefore, the organizers then moved the festival to the north of Cologne in 1996, namely to the popular Fühlinger See. This lures with white sandy beach and lots of water, so that a wonderful raggae feeling is created very quickly.

Spending the night is possible at a campsite right on Lake Fühlinger See. If you don't mind this type of accommodation, there are of course short ways. If you prefer to sleep a bit more comfortably, you can of course book the accommodation cologne !

Significantly fewer visitors to the Summer Jam in 2017

Maybe it was the terror fear or was it just bad luck? It could not have been a tightened security concept, because according to the organizer, this was the same as in previous years. Sure, but not over the top ... The number of security guards in the private security company was increased from 400 to 420 men. The police wanted to be more careful. Overall, there were no restrictions on visitors. It was probably just a fear that something might happen. For this reason, around 7000 fewer visitors attended the festival in 2017.

Schools in Fühlingen

There was a primary school since 1880. The school was enlarged in 1905 and also in the 1930s. Unfortunately, the number of students was no longer sufficient. That is why she closed her gates for always at the end of 1970. The children of Fühlingen have had to go to Seeberg ever since. It is located three kilometers from the district.

Fühlingers complain

The citizens' association "Wir Fühlinger" has officially lodged a complaint against the city of Cologne. They disagree with the distribution of refugees and have lodged a complaint with the local authority. Now the district government is challenged.

Why was a complaint filed? The people of Fühling disagree with the fact that an accommodation for 240 refugees is being built on "Neusser Landstrasse" due to a council decision. Can a Council decision really be overturned? Probably not, but the city of Cologne is now forced to submit a detailed report on why exactly this accommodation should be built there.

A complaint from a local authority: Every citizen can complain to the higher authority about his or her municipality. So it's actually a regulatory complaint in the narrower sense. So the citizens' association sent this complaint to the district president, Ms. Gisela Walsken. The intention of the complaint is to reduce the number of refugees from 240 to 80 refugees.

What should actually be built? The refugee accommodation is said to contain 64 residential units, which are to go over two floors. The building permit was not yet available when the complaint was received.

On December 20, 2016, the city council decided on this decision because more and more refugees were pouring into the city at this time and the administration had hardly any accommodation options. At that time, the council decided on a list of many locations, including Fühlingen. It is interesting, however, to increase another 40 refugees from 200 to 240, although the Chorweiler district council had decided against building the refugee home. Was it a "return carriage"?

Can the decision be overturned?

Such a decision can only be challenged if an unlawful decision has been made. This means that the city council has deliberately made the wrong decision or there must have been a procedural error. However, both the agenda of the council meeting was published correctly and the district council was properly heard. So there is no formal error.
