History in a hurry

In 1268, the district was first mentioned in a document. The people of Eil were poor people. They were day laborers and made a living on Röttgen and Leidenhausen. In the Middle Ages, Eil came to the Porz office. In the 19th century, Eil was part of the Heumar Mayor's Office and was the largest town here. The Church of St. Michael was built from 1903 to 1905. The architect was Theodor Kremer. It was built in the Gothic Revival style. The Eil district first got its own parish in 1917. The mayors Heumar and Wahn were merged. Thereupon Eil belonged to the municipality of Porz. An industrial area was established in the 1960s. Many Cologne companies settled here. The prices for the land were cheap. For example, Deutz AG settled in this industrial area. The Plaza shopping center (today's Real) was built in the 1970s. It was one of the first large shopping centers in Cologne . There is also a drive-in cinema : Köln-Eil. Eil was incorporated in 1975.
