Location of the district

Heimersdorf is bordered by the other districts Longerich , Lindweiler , Weiler / Volkhoven, Chorweiler and Seeberg . The Mercatorstrasse borders it to the east and the military ring road to the south.

History of the district

The first mention in a document took place in the 13th / 14th century. A Hof Heimersdorf was mentioned here . The Cologne hereditary bailiff Gerhard announces that the Cologne Augustinian convent St. Maria Magdalena owns some goods in Heimersdorf. The monastery was located at the Blaubach and was also called "Weißfrauenkloster". The "Heimersdorp" farm was remote (over many centuries) between Longerich and Volkhoven. In relative isolation, the farm was not managed by the monastery itself. This was taken over by a leaseholder. The tenant had to pay a sumer rye in 1394.

The price was calculated per acre of land. Also 20 cologne marks had to be given up. In 1581, the rent consisted of 26 Malter rye, 12 Malter barley, roosters, mutton, lambs, two calves and eggs. That was the annual interest. The leaseholders have become owners over the centuries. They had a right to use the property, which was inherited. The tax burden was often only marginal. On August 31, 1803, the Weißfrauenkloster was closed. The property was sold by the French secularization laws.

On October 25, 1810, the Cologne citizen G. A. Krapp bought the Heimersdorfer Hof . The purchase price was £ 18,000. Heimersdorf was included in the Mayor's Office of Longerich. Since the French occupation. In the decade between 1810 and 1820, the farm was divided. The Heuserhof was built nearby. The court had 30 members in 1820. Longerich had 390 at that time and the Berheimerhöfe had 40 residents. The Hof Thiebach (arrow courtyard) can be seen on old maps from 1807 / 1808. This courtyard was smaller and was built later. Longerich was incorporated in 1888. An old map from 1899 shows nicely that at that time this area only consisted of the three farms. In addition, there were four tiny houses. They belonged to the citizens of Longerich. They built the houses on the Volkhoven path. Construction on Heimersdorf did not take place until 1922. A small settlement was built on Volkhovener Weg. There were also some settlements on Pulheimer Strasse and Froschacker. Over time, more settlements followed.

The New City

Cologne planned the "New City" in 1958. A relief center was to be built in the north of Cologne. Heimersdorf was chosen for the new plans. A first street was built here in 1961. Between 1961 and 1965 many buildings were built in Heimersdorf. The citizens were offered favorable conditions for buying a house. These were based on the number of children in the families. This is one of the reasons why Heimersdorf was one of the richest areas in all of Germany. The buildings were built bit by bit. Konrad Adenauer, then Federal Chancellor and honorary citizen of Cologne, was personally convinced of the progress of the construction in Heimersdorf.

The migration share in Heimersdorf was 21.4%, in Chorweiler it was 76.2%. Heimersdorf is affected by aging. A "demographic wave" was observed in the buildings from the 1960s with single-family houses. This means that mostly two generations moved into the houses. The parents became senior citizens and the children moved away and did not take over the houses. Younger people settle little in Heimersdorf. This means that kindergartens have been closed. They were also thinking of closing the two primary schools.
