History
In 959 the first mention was made with the gentlemen "von und zu Stammheim" . In the 11th century, the earlier building for the parish church of St. Mary's Birth was also mentioned. In 1863 the district was raised to a vicaria and a clergyman was appointed. During the French occupation, Stammheim came to the Mairie Merheim. Merheim was in the canton of Mülheim and from 1815 the district was then administered by the Mayor's Office of Merheim. The incorporation into Cologne took place on April 1, 1914.

Customs
The marksman festival has been the highlight in Stammheim for centuries. It is celebrated every first Sunday in August. The Brotherhood of Riflemen St. Sebastianus has been around since 1594. In 1908 the Rifle Square was created and is here the festival also celebrated. Shooting takes place on all festive days. Carnival is also celebrated in the district. The Marien-Okatav is a high point in church life. It is celebrated in early September and the statue of the "Joyful Mother of God" is venerated in the district. An old legend is told that the statue was washed up from the Rhine river to Stammheim. The octave is opened with a procession of lights. Many groups of pilgrims from the neighboring parishes take part in the services that are held daily. There are also many music associations in the village, such as the church choir "Cäcilia". Fort XII with intermediate XIIb
Fort XII was the cornerstone of the Prussian fortifications on the right bank of the Rhine. In Stammheim at Düsseldorfer Straße exactly in Stammheimer Wäldchen and in Egonstraße the intermediate plant XIIb. Fort XII was built in 1877 and was completed in 1881. The fort was equipped with 12 cm and four 15 cm cannons. The fort's job was to secure the flank in the north of Cologne in the event of a siege. The throat barracks were intended for accommodation and consisted of a central wing and two side wings. The Glacis earth wall was 250 meters wide and seven meters high. In 1885 the artillery positions were removed.
The fort in Stammheim remained. Ammunition rooms and depots were kept in the top barracks. In 1925 the softening was completed and all concrete plants were blown up. Artillery and ammunition bunkers, infantry bases and moat weirs were blown up. All hollow structures were also blown up and only the throat barracks remained. During the Second World War the fort was used as an accommodation for the security service. The entire complex was leveled in 1976 and the trenches of the fort were filled with earth. Before Fort XII was expanded, intermediate XIIb was built. From here the defense against infantry was organized.
