The history of Bocklemünd and Mengenich

The two villages of Quantich and Bocklemünd were simply just two tiny villages for many centuries, which in principle were only dominated by farms. With some other villages or small towns they were combined in 1798 in the canton of Weiden. Starting at the end of the 17th century with around 130 inhabitants, Bocklemünd developed splendidly and by the end of the 18th century already had more than 500 inhabitants! Mengeich has just over 200 residents. As already mentioned above, the two villages were incorporated in 1888.

Although settlement development was promoted in the 1930s, the villages retained their village appearance. With a major construction project in the years from 1960 the appearance finally changed: the "Trabantenstadt Bocklemünd-Mengenich" was targeted and about 3000 residential units for more than 12000 inhabitants were to be built. Then came the fee collection center and built its administrative building there in 1976. Finally in 1985 the WDR with its television studios and the appearance in Bocklemünd / Mengenich had changed extremely.
