Name Description

The meaning of the name Libur: It can mean shelter or protection . But it is also an Old High German derivation of the words "le", which means burial mound and "bur", which means house or apartment. So the word Libur would mean "place of residence on the burial mound". The Porz office was responsible for Libur in the Middle Ages, which belongs to the Duchy of Berg. The Grand Duchy of Berg was founded in 1806. And in 1808 there was a new administration, based on the French. The Prussian mayor Wahn was responsible for Libur since 1815. From 1822 Libur belonged to the Rhine province. In 1927 the office was renamed Wahn. In 1929 the offices of Heumar and Porz were merged. The circle Mülheim has been dissolved. The Porz office thus came to the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis in 1932.

The war

The last German fighting took place in April 1945. German weapons and ammunition were then disposed of and sunk in a fire-fighting pond. The fire pond was called "Schullekul". Since the fire-fighting pond was in the immediate vicinity of the school, parents were worried. It happened that children played with ammunition. There was also a strong smell and a mosquito infestation. So there were always inquiries from the population about the removal of the fire pond. On March 18, 1957, the evacuation was decided. The clearing work took over two months. This evacuation was completed on June 15, 1957. The war material from the Second World War was recovered and destroyed. The population has increased since 2005. New development areas emerged.

The church as well as the churches of St. Aegidius Wahn, Christus König Wahnheide, St. Bartholomäus Urbach and St. Maria Himmelfahrt Grengel belong to the parish of Christus König! Count von Plettenberg founded a vicarie in 1482. A field chapel was built in Libur in 1582. The chapel was built in honor of Margaret of Antioch.

In 1849 the vicarium was raised to an independent parish. Services were held in the field chapel. The chapel then unfortunately became too small over time . Therefore, on April 25, 1909, the foundation stone was laid for the construction of the parish church of St. Margaretha. It was inaugurated on July 13, 1910. The demolition of the field chapel then took place at the beginning of 1911. On November 30, 1911 there was a consecration, which Joseph Müller carried out as auxiliary bishop.
