Fewo Köln explains: Meschenich

We take a short trip to Meschenich with Ferienwohnung-Koeln.com. At least mentally, as a tourist shouldn't necessarily plan a visit there. The district is quite problematic and poses a certain criminal risk. But more on that later. The district is managed under number 213 and belongs politically to the district Rodenkirchen . The dialing code is 02232.

The district is located quite south and borders on the following other districts or locations: Rondorf , Hürth, Brühl and Immendorf .

Buildings and structures

In Mechenich there are some high-rise buildings known as "Kölnberg". These were built in the 70s and fundamentally changed the place! There are many social problems and a high potential for violence. In 2014, for example, a decayed body was thrown from a high-rise on the Kölnberg from the ninth floor of a high-rise! Take a look at this video:

In addition to such events you fight drug problems and violence every day there . We therefore advise you not to visit this part of the city. The parish church of St. Balsius is also worth mentioning. What else is there? The following:

Fire at the skyscraper

At the end of March 2020, there was a large fire service in Meschenich. Supposedly there should be a high-rise on the "Alte Brühler Straße" in Flamen! Fortunately, this was not the case. Because it was just bulky waste and junk that had caught fire or maybe even been lit. The fire as such could be extinguished quite quickly and did not cause any problems for the firefighters. On the other hand, all the gawkers already. The fire brigade almost had to force them back. Because of the strong smoke, there were still strange scenes. Some people panicked outside because they noticed the smoke and others had to be urged through the loudspeaker to leave the house to get no smoke poisoning. Around fifty firefighters had their hands full and probably as many cleaners as many Cars charred or were contaminated by the heavy smoke.

Raid on Kölnberg

In September 2019, the city and the police raided Meschenich. Numerous controls were carried out in restaurants and kiosks. Three were not registered and thus illegal gaming machines, four fake pistols with silencers and a small car, which was classified as unsafe for traffic. Due to some open demands from the city of Cologne, the enforcement department was involved and seized cash and cars. Criminal proceedings have been initiated. The whole campaign is carried out regularly under the title "Cologneberg presence concept".

A fire breaks out!

Something has happened again "An der Fuhr" in Cologne-Meschenich . This skyscraper just doesn't come to rest. In the evening of April 23rd, 2018 there was a fire on the 13th floor! Thankfully the firecrackers were able to extinguish the fire quickly and allegedly no one was seriously injured.

Unfortunately we have no information about the background of the fire.

Apartment Cologne Tip

Unfortunately we cannot recommend a visit to this district. In addition to the problems mentioned above, there are actually no real attractions there.

Pensions, hotels or apartments

We didn't find a pension or a holiday apartment in this district. But we were very surprised that we actually found a hotel there.

Poor and rich so close together!

The Meschenich district is in itself a great contrast program, because in addition to the high-rise buildings on the Kölnberg there are of course also "normal" single-family houses and even some farms. But the difference becomes very extreme if you simply drive 4 kilometers further by car or bicycle! Through Rondorf and you are in Hahnwald . There where the millionaires live in Cologne , where there is even a security service of its own (organized and paid for by the residents) who walks through the streets in the evenings.
