Location of Brück

The Bergisches Land forms the border with Brück. Dellbrück forms the border to the district in the north.

History

Brück formed two old trade routes at the intersection of the Mauspfad and Brüderstraße. The first mention in a document was in 1166. At that time the Altenberg Abbey owned a farm. Count Adolf V. acquired it in 1270. Brück belonged to Merheim in the Bergisches Amt Porz since the Middle Ages. In 1411 there was a documentary mention with the customs station in Brück. This station was leased to some families in Brück. A poor hospital was founded in 1437. In 1444, Duke Gerhard II of Jülich and Berg had a chapel built. The Grand Duchy of Berg was founded in 1806. In 1808, a new administration was founded based on the French model.

From 1815 Brück then belonged to the Mayor's Office of Merheim. The Hubertus Chapel was rebuilt in 1864. In 1906 there was a connection from Brück to Cologne with a small train. This small train was extended to Bensberg in 1913. In 1914 it was incorporated into the city of Cologne. The district was heavily built up over time. A settlement was built on the Klausenberg between 1925 and 1940. Then, between 1947 and 1949, the Gräfenhof settlement was built. And finally in 1965 the settlement "Konrad-Adenauer-Siedlung" was built. This is located in the west of the district. The new district of Neubrück developed from this in 1992.

Religion

In 1708 the elector had a chapel built. It was dedicated to Saint Anthony and served as the Hubertus chapel from 1716. The Hubertus chapel was rebuilt in 1864 and functioned as a Catholic parish church from 1889. The Catholic St. Hubertus Church was built in 1930/31. The municipality of Brück belongs together with Merheim to the parish of Brück / Merheim.

In the years 1936/37 the evangelical Johanneskirche was built. Today it belongs to the Evangelical Church Community of Cologne-Brück-Merheim.
