Fewo Cologne presents: Gremberghoven

The district is located on the right bank of the Rhine and belongs to the district of Porz. In 1922 the name was first used as a district. It originated from the districts Gremberg and Westhoven .

Geographical

Gremberghoven borders on the east of Rath / Heumar and Eil . Finkenberg forms the border to the southeast. The southern border is formed by Porz and the west is formed by Ensen and Westhoven. Humboldt / Gremberg and Ostheim are the northern parts of Gremberghoven.

History

In 1917 a freight station was built, which was already in planning from 1913. A stop was built in 1921. The railway settlement that was nearby was called "colony". Ensen-Ost was the name of the new settlement. So decided the municipal council of Porz. However, there was an article in the Porz-Urbacher Volksblatt that the inhabitants of this settlement had chosen the name Gremberghoven. The name Gremberghoven then appeared in a newspaper on May 2, 1922. The tenant cooperative was mentioned with the name Gremberghoven. The name was approved by the government president of Cologne. Gremberghoven was incorporated in 1975.

Railway settlement

Gremberghoven was created after the First World War. The district is a railway settlement . There are large gardens in the houses of the settlement . They are the center of the district. Row houses and apartment blocks with many floors dominate the district.

Economy, infrastructure and transport

Bundesstraße 8 is connected to Bundesautobahn 559. The former Porz-Gremberghoven station was closed in 2004.

Three new stations have been added:

• The Cologne Airport Business Park station in the northwest of the district center. Here the ABC Tower is the landmark of the business park. A commercial area has been under construction here since the end of 1980. The industrial area is delimited by the railway line, Frankfurter Straße and the Autobahn 4 and 559. The name is similar to the name of the Cologne / Bonn airport. This is nearby and has its own train station.
• Cologne Frankfurter Strasse station: it was built in the north of the district and is located on the eastern edge of the airport business park.
• The Cologne Steinstrasse train station is in the south of Gremberghoven.

The S 12 stops at the Airport Business Park and the Silk Road. There are lines 151, 152 and 154 on bus routes in Gremberghoven.

Sport

The sports club ESV Gremberghoven e. V. offers five sports. Then there is the St. Hubertus Gremberghoven 1924 e. V.

Economy in the district

The Airport Businesspark industrial area covers an area of approximately 31 hectares.

Facilities

The Friedrich-List community primary school and the refuse center August-Horch-Straße.

Churches in Gremberghoven

Here is a short list:

• The church "To raise the precious cross" stands on Frankenplatz. It belongs to the Serbian Orthodox parish of Cologne. The service and liturgy are carried out in several languages. The church was previously reserved for Catholic believers. However, the Archdiocese of Cologne sold the church in 2004.
• The "Holy Spirit" church was Catholic and existed until 2004. It dates from 1925. The Evangelicals celebrate mass in the Matthäuskirche.
