Neubrück is located on the right bank of the Rhine in the Kalk district.

Geography

Neubrück lies on a former swamp area . The area was used for agriculture until 1935. Neubrück borders the district Brück to the northeast, Rath Heumar to the east and Ostheim and west of Merheim .

History

In the 1950s, further residential areas were needed in Cologne for the workers and administrative staff as well as for displaced persons. There was already the Bruder Klaus settlement and the Stegerwald settlement in Mülheim . In 1959, another large housing estate for around 15,000 residents was decided. The undeveloped former runway was considered suitable. This was operated from 1937 to 1945. The purchase negotiations were difficult because the Federal Ministry of Defense could not rule out that the tarmac may also be needed in the future. Thereupon Konrad Adenauer himself influenced the further discussions and intervened at Franz Josef Strauß . It was then released for sale .

The districts of Brück were two kilometers apart and the residents did not feel interwoven. Even 25 years after the first housing developments, there was no sense of belonging. There were no touch points that mattered. Therefore, there was an initiative from the then district representative Ralph Sterck with the citizens' association Neubrück. The initiative wanted to separate the large housing estate from the previous district. On May 7, 1992 the main statutes were applied to the city of Cologne. This said that Brück and Neubrück should become independent districts.

The citizens' representatives of the old district supported the application because the "Adenauer settlement" was never considered to belong to Brück. Between the areas there was a high-rise wing on Hans-Schulten-Strasse. There was a democratic survey of which neighborhood they wanted to belong to. Over 80% of those surveyed chose Brück. On September 24, 1992, the Cologne City Council then decided to reorganize the Brück district into two separate districts - Brück and Neubrück.

Noise

The main entry lane from Cologne / Bonn Airport is in the southwest of Neubrück. This means that 48 streets in Neubrück belong to the night protection zone. A noise level of 75 dBA is reached six times a night. The airport operator finances the affected residents with double glazing, soundproofed roller shutter boxes and aerators. A noise level of 55 dBA, which is necessary for a good night's sleep, can be achieved. There are also many take-offs and landings of the rescue helicopter Christoph 3 at the Merheim Clinic. In addition, the district area in the west is right next to the Heumar motorway triangle and the Cologne-East motorway junction. For several decades, this caused additional noise pollution for the residents. A noise barrier was built between 2003 and 2005. This contributed significantly to the improvement.

Religion

The majority of Neubrück is Catholic, followed by Protestant citizens. On January 27, 1966 Adelheid was canonized by Vilich. In her honor, the parish was named "St. Adelheid". The foundation stone for the Church of St. Adelheid was laid on June 27, 1966. Cardinal Giuseppe Antonio Ferretto laid the foundation stone.

Clubs and Culture

There is a privately operated sports center in the south. Here you can play tennis, squash and mini golf. Various events such as carnival meetings or concerts are also organized here in the catering area. There are numerous sports facilities of the sports clubs SV and TC Rot-Schwarz Neubrück. Badminton, basketball and volleyball is offered by DJK Neubrück . The citizens' association was founded in 1970. It has around 570 members and it is the largest citizens' association in Cologne on the right bank of the Rhine.

In Neubrück there is a children's and youth kindergarten theater. It is the only one of its kind in Germany, called "Kölsch Thiater Köln-Neubrück e. V.". In 1990 it won the first Cologne theater award.

Stretch

In the summer months, the area around a large quarry pond is used for sunbathing. However, bathing in the quarry lake is prohibited for safety reasons. The lake belongs to a concrete manufacturer who mined sand and gravel.

• The foundation stone of this settlement, dated August 26, 1965. The year "1965" is engraved. It is located on the front of a single-family house at Briandstraße 13.
• The former airport ring road from Ostheim Air Base in Josef-Gockeln-Strasse. Today it is a bike path.
• A metal sculpture is located in the school courtyard of the Kurt Tucholsky secondary school. The artist is unknown.
