Fewo Cologne presents: Wahnheide

Wahnheide has around 2706 inhabitants per km² and as of December 31, 2015, around 7786 inhabitants. It was incorporated on January 1, 1975. The total area of the Wahnheider district is 2,877 km².

Wahnheide belongs to the municipality Porz and is located southeast of Cologne.

Geographical information about Wahnheide

Wahnheide has the district Grengel as a border in the east and in the north. Seen to the south, Lind forms its border and west borders Wahn and Elsdorf to the district and also the federal highway 59 .

History

The district was first mentioned in 1759 as "Wahner Heide". A certain Matthias Ehmann brought out a card. On December 24, 1757, she mentioned "Hunting, Real Estate and Other Righteous Men of the House of Wahn". The map was described with the name "Map of the Wahner Heath". Wahnheide is composed of the names Wahner Heide and is therefore pronounced in a shortened form. The Wahner Heide is a nature reserve. The Wahner Heide was also a former military training area. On the floor of today's district there were only a few huts and houses "An der Biesel" .

The district was built through the military training area. The military training area was opened in 1817. Later it was extended to the districts of Eil, Grengel and Lind. The soldiers who had to practice here needed accommodation. Buildings were also needed for supply. Therefore it turned out that private people also settled here. In 1939 an air base was opened here, which was located in the area of ​​the military training area. Today, this air base belongs to the Konrad-Adenauer-Flughafen as well as to the Wahn air force barracks.

The German Aerospace Center

It is certainly one, if not the most important local unit (economically speaking). DLR has been commissioned by the Federal Republic of Germany to carry out research for energy technology, for security, for traffic, for applied basic research and for aerospace. It was founded in 1907 and has more than 8,000 employees, which expresses the enormous weight and importance of this facility! There are another 19 national and even 4 international locations. There are collaborations with other research centers.

Originally founded in 1907 by Mr. Ludwig Prandtl in the city of Göttingen. Today's DLR was created in 1969 under the name "German Research and Testing Institute for Aerospace (DFVLR)". It was an amalgamation of several institutions. In 1989 the German Aerospace Research and Experimental Institute was "renamed" as it is today. You can hardly believe it, but it is a registered association! The business areas are the following:
