Porz has an area of 3,119 km² and approximately 14,963 inhabitants. Porz is therefore a relatively small district with high population density . Porz is located in the southeast of Cologne. Location of the district

This district borders on Eil , Urbach and Elsdorf . To the south, Zündorf forms the border to the district. Porz borders the Rhine on the west and the districts of Gremberghoven, Finkenberg and Ensen to the north. Porz is also located on a so-called impact slope on the Rhine. The so-called White Arch lies on a sliding slope opposite the Rhine.

History

In 1019 the first documentary mention of Porz took place. The name is derived from the Latin "porta" for door or gate. The Latin name for port, "portus", is also possible. There has been a national dish in Porz for a long time. Since 1286, actually. It was the administrative seat of the Porz office, which belonged to the Duchy of Berg. This duchy also included Brück, Grengel, Buchheim , Dünnwald , Eil, Ensen, Flittard , Langel, Libur, Lind, Merheim, Heumar, Mülheim am Rhein, Rath, Stammheim , Urbach, Wahn , Westhoven, Zündorf, Bergisch Gladbach, Bensberg, Dürscheid and Immekeppel.

Porz was also occupied by the French troops in 1795. Then the district belonged to Mairie Wahn in the canton of Mülheim. In 1815 Porz was incorporated into the Kingdom of Prussia. In 1910 a town hall was built in the Porz district. This was built for the Heumar Mayor's Office. The mayor's office became Porz in 1928. 1929 followed the connection to the Wahn office. In 1932, the Rheinisch-Bergisch district was responsible for Porz. Porz was granted city rights in September 1951. The district was incorporated into the city of Cologne on January 1, 1975. This was done by the Cologne Law.

Porz infrastructure

Porz as a district is considered the administrative and cultural center of the Porz district. The town hall, the tax office, the employment agency, the Porz am Rhein hospital and the pedestrian zone on the market square are located here. There are also many shops here. To distinguish between the district and the district of Porz, Porz center is often used for the district. A marketing strategy was also the term "porzity" and "goal of many nice people".

Germania settlement - sight

The Germania settlement is almost completely preserved. It was built and built between 1899 and 1903. The settlement has a beautiful director's villa with a small park - the Concordia Square. Master houses are laid out along Germaniastraße. There are employee and worker houses on Glasstrasse. The settlement was built for the employees of the Germania mirror glass works. The work no longer exists today. In the settlement you can see the structure and hierarchy at that time. Both the architecture and the facilities show the status of the residents at that time.
