Grengel belongs to the district of Porz and is located southeast of Cologne. The district has an area of 10.66 km² and has about 5700 inhabitants.

Geographical location

History

The district of Grengel was first mentioned in 1757. Grindel was called the district at that time. The meaning of the name Grindel is turnpike or border post . The Grengel district was founded on December 17, 1948. At that time it was the youngest settlement of the Porz community. The young settlement already had 800 inhabitants on September 16, 1951. Grengel was incorporated into the city of Cologne on January 1, 1975. As a result, the area was doubled.
