History of Widdersdorf

The first written mention of the district at that time still called "Wedersdorp" was in Roman times and exactly in 1109. A possible derivation of the name could be possible using the animal name "Aries". But why exactly the ram should be the name sponsor here cannot be clearly explained. In the Middle Ages, the place belonged to the Königsdorf office and thus to the Electorate of Cologne. As with all other parts of the city in Cologne, the "dear" French then took control of the area in 1794 and then finally decided to reorganize the administration into the new "Marie de Freimersdorf". Finally in 1815 again in the hands of the Prussians, Widdersdorf became part of the mayor's office in Freimersdorf. As already with the place Lövenich there was a little "administrative confusion" which we want to summarize briefly:

Buildings, war memorials and facilities

A very well-known brewery was founded in Widdersdorf in 1902: namely the Sester Kölsch brewery. A move to Ehrenfeld takes place later in the time. The Kölsch brewery was then temporarily used as a grain distillery before it was converted into residential units between 1998 and 2000. A monument was built in 1904 especially for the distillery. In Widdersdorf there is a large construction project, which is carried out under the name "Widdersorf Süd" and provides for an expansion of the location. For example, five different quarters were planned and built here to enable an individual style of living.
