Cologne Höhenhaus briefly presented

Höhenhaus is located on the right bank of the Rhine and belongs to the Mülheim district. The district of Höhenhaus has an area of 5,077 km² and approximately 15,213 inhabitants. Its incorporation took place on April 1, 1914.

Location of Höhenhaus

The district borders to the east on Dünnwald and Dellbrück , to the south to the district Holweide and west at Mülheim and Stammheim .

History

The Höhenhaus district was formed from the Höhenhaus and Höhenfeld districts. The two places were merged, whereby Höhenhaus previously belonged to Dünnwald. In the district there was a branch of the Bergischen Löwenbrauerei, which existed since 1891. The area of the company was 37,500 m² and was located on Berliner Strasse and Flachsroster Weg. In 1956, however, the site was shut down because production was relocated. The Pilsener Höhenhaus, a bottom-fermented beer, was brewed here until 1977. At the time, a slogan was brought out for the type of beer, with the words: "If you want fresh out in the morning, drink Höhenhaus in the evening" . In the Rhineland, the beer was well received and spread.

Various

The Wupperweg level crossing has been in the media since there was a fatal accident here in October 2010. In 2010 the railway barriers were still functional. The barrier is defective and no longer closes reliably. The manual blocking of this level crossing cannot always be ensured.

Religion in the district

Three Catholic churches:

1. At Rosenmaar 1 there is the "Zur Heiligen Familie" church
2. In the Von-Ketteler-Straße 2 is the church "St. Hedwig "- the architect Emil Steffann designed it and the foundation stone was laid in 1966. The relics of St. Hedwig can be admired in a wall bracket. The church also has a cross by Jochem Pechau and a relief by Josef Welling.
3. The church “St. Johann Baptist ”- Paul Krücken built the church in 1955 and the consecration took place on July 17, 1955. The Easter candlestick comes from Egino Weinert from Cologne and the windows were created by Ernst Jansen-Winkeln. The church has, among other things, a monstrance by Gabriel Hermeling as a treasure.

In December 2014, the Bodelschwingh community center was razed to the ground. Apartments and a kindergarten were then built in the area.

• In 2011 the community elementary school "Honschaftsstraße with Catholic Confessional Branch" was built as a network of the former GGS and KGS Honschaftsstraße.

• At Rosenmaar is the Rosenmaar School, which was previously called the Peter Petersen School; the primary school has a supraregional effect and teaches with an integrative and reform pedagogical concept

Streets in Höhenhaus

We want to briefly introduce the most important streets in Cologne-Höhenhaus. The "Berliner Straße" also plays a major role here, as it also leads across the Höhenhaus. There are many shops and also access to the Cologne Transport Authority (KVB).

The large street "Am Weidenbruch" is of central importance for the residents of Höhenhaus. It is not only the main traffic artery, but is also stocked with many everyday shops. There are bakeries, doctors, restaurants and much more. You can also get from this street to the "Honschaftsstraße" and thus you have access to the parish office and the church of St. Johann Baptist, the Johannesschule and the youth center Höhenhaus.

On the "Honschaftsstraße" there are still some important things, such as the "Volksbank Dünnwald Holweide e.G." or the popular snack bar "tomato". The "Thyme School Cologne-Höhenhaus" is surrounded by the Honschaftsstraße and the street "Im Weidenbruch".
