Transport connections from Cologne White
The district can be reached by public transport from the KVB (Kölner Verkehrsbetriebe). Namely with the bus lines 130 and 131. Otherwise unfortunately only by bicycle or by car.
Naming
The district of Weiß is located in the south and gives its name to the "Weißen Rheinbogen". The name of the place probably came from a gift of wine from a canon from St. Georg in Cologne: he gave wine to Wise at Soride. This stood or stands for white at Sürth. Other spellings: Wishe, Wisse, Wijss, Wyß. The name stands for the term "Wiese".
Location
As already mentioned several times, the district is located directly south of Cologne city center on the Rhine. Adjacent are actually only the places Zündorf , Sürth , Rodenkirchen , Hahnwald and Langel .
Flood problem
Flooding has always been a big problem in white. There have been many floods. For example in the following years: 1496, 497, 1776, 1784, 1819 and 1820. The great century of flooding in 1995 largely spared the village of White. The houses in the town center were surrounded by the Rhine water, but not flooded. Only a few houses suffered from the rising groundwater. In the years 2007 and 2008 the city of Cologne invested even more in flood protection and so a flood protection dam was installed, which runs through the Weißer Bogen.

We recommend the Rhine ferry Krokolino ! The small and very popular Rhine ferry Krokolino goes to the destination "Zündorfer Groov". As a pedestrian and cyclist, you can simply translate by ferry and thus expand your excursion radius. A very nice thing in summer!

The fruit and vegetable shop in white
The "Fruit and Vegetable Paradise" may not look like a paradise from the outside, but here you can actually still get fresh, unpacked vegetables and fruit from the wholesale market! It lies on wooden shelves and the rest of the furnishings are more vintage in style. The scale is old and the cash register is not digital, just as it used to be. Hannelore Bussard is a strong woman who runs the shop at the age of 73. The fruit and vegetable paradise has been in Cologne Weiß since 2002 and will probably still be open until 2023. The trained merchant was able to make a pretty good living from the store in the first few years, but today he hardly makes any profits. The shrinking commercial situation in Cologne Weiß also led to a decline in its customers . People just want to buy cheap from the discounter and so Ms. Bussard not only had to limit their opening hours, but also reduce the range. There were simply too few customers or not everything was bought. "Avarice is cool" seems to think that some white man and thus destroys the business in his district. Thankfully, Ms. Bussard doesn't have to pay rent, otherwise she should have closed the shop long ago!
The fresh goods come from the wholesale market! Once a week, Ms. Bussard drives to the Cologne wholesale market at two in the morning. There she buys fresh fruit and vegetables for her shop. Cologne is still sleeping at this early hour! The streets are empty, everything is quiet and there are almost no cars on the road. The same traders meet every week on the market, drink coffee and rave about the "good old days". After shopping, she lies down again briefly and opens the shop around 8.30 a.m. Since the yields are barely enough to live on, she calls her activity more of a hobby. We think such shops are great and therefore ask the residents of Weiß: "Go shopping in the fruit and vegetable paradise!"
Carnival in Cologne White
Carnival is also very important in the district of White! The "Löstige Wiever vun St. Georg" celebrated their 30th session and was therefore celebrated vigorously. Around 1200 carnivalists were amazed and cheered for the carnival procession. The carnival procession took place for the 58th time in the village of Veedel.
Finally a great bakery in white
The whole district was happy when "Gertis Kiosk" was finally revived. The kiosk was closed in 2003 and was a huge loss for white. The kiosk was a meeting point and not just a shop counter. After a shop for dog accessories and a care service, the traditional Cologne bakery Schmitz & Nittenwilm has moved in there and sells fresh bread rolls and fresh coffee . Finally, life is coming back to the store, because the bakery is very well received! All people are happy and meet for a coffee there and queue up every Sunday to buy fresh bread.
Pension and Hotel Cologne
Even in this small town there is actually a guest house! A small family-run hotel business which sees itself as a bed & breakfast boutique. We didn't find apartments there. Maybe there are also some apartments there that offer Zeitwohnen Köln ? We don't know.
